While there are many architectures available for computing today, client computing is dominated by the X86 architecture. Recently, the x86-64 architecture has been released (commonly referred to as 64 bit computing) offering additional benefits.
Virtually all personal computers purchased since 2007 have CPU hardware supporting x86-64, but operating systems fully utilizing this hardware have only recently begun to become widespread.
