Computer Operating Systems

Computer Operating Systems Details

While there are many architectures available for computing today, client computing is dominated by the X86 architecture. Recently, the x86-64 architecture has been released (commonly referred to as 64 bit computing) offering additional benefits.
Virtually all personal computers purchased since 2007 have CPU hardware supporting x86-64, but operating systems fully utilizing this hardware have only recently begun to become widespread. The below chart compares architecture market share for OS Type. It should be noted that while we make every effort to correctly detect and report architecture types, we cannot always do so; therefore, you will generally see an "Undetected" component which represents the portion of the market for which we cannot say which architecture is used.
